Since 1969, the Allman Brothers Band has been producing an All-American brand of Rock & Roll that continues to gain new fans each year. Hailing from Macon, Georgia, the Allman Brother’s epitomize the concept of southern rock. Despite the tragic deaths of key members Duane Allman and Berry Oakley, and the unmanageable attitude and habits of former bassist Dicky Bettes, the band has managed to keep its lineup fresh while maintaining the ability to stay true to their roots. Combining artistic elements of psychedelic culture with the soulful melodies of the American South, the Allman Brothers Band delivers intrinsic live performances, often bringing out any number of guest artists to join them on stage. Over the years, the band has produced 11 gold and 5 platinum albums including such gems as “Eat a Peach”, and “At the Fillmore East.” Each year in March, the band plays an 11 show run at New York City’s newly renovated Beacon Theatre. However, because Cirque de Soleil had the venue booked through the projected tour, the run moved its home temporarily to the beautiful United Palace Theatre in Washington Heights. Special guests during the run included Susan Tedeschi, Eric Krasno of Soullive, and Rob Baracco of the Dark Star Orchestra. Unfortuntely, the tour was stunted due to unforeseen family matters, but I have no doubt that as long as Greg Allman is still alive, the band will be as well.
