As the festival season rapidly approaches, all of the usual anxieties of summer begin to set in. Festival goers everywhere will soon be airing out their tents, and emptying their bank accounts to get on the road with their favorite bands and favorite friends to once again experience the joy and community of music in its most pure and awesome element. Its time to take an inventory of your camping supplies, print your lot shirts, refine your grilled cheese making skills, cash your birthday checks that you’ve been saving from last year, and anxiously start dreading your hair in anticipation of the first note that says “welcome to summer.” If you live on the east coast, or just happen to be a particularly devoted festival-goer, you may even hear that first note at Radio Woodstock & Warren Haynes’ Mountain Jam Festival. Mountain Jam is in its 6th year, and is traditionally held the weekend after Memorial Day (which happens to be the first weekend in June this year), at the beautiful and lush Hunter Mountain ski resort in Upstate New York. In its 6 years running, it has gained quite a reputation amongst its patrons for being a beautiful, safe, clean, and world-class music festival. Rolling Stone Magazine rated Mountain Jam the 8th best music festival in the United States, and for good reason. If you are new to festivals and need the right atmosphere in which to break on to the scene, or are a seasoned festival veteran looking to kick off your summer with some of the best people and best acts in music, than Mountain Jam is for you. This year’s lineup includes newcomers like Yonder Mountain String Band, Les Claypool, Lettuce, Zach Deputy, and Matisyahu, and welcomes back festival vets Gov’t Mule, The Allman Brothers Band, and Levon Helm; who will be celebrating his 70th birthday with many special guests over the weekend. Tickets are available through the festival’s website, mountainjamfestival.com, as well as all the information you could possibly need (i.e. directions, camping rules, etc). Let Mountain Jam welcome you to summer with open arms. Hope to see you there!
